June 29, 2023—TNG is disheartened by the Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. (SFFA) v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and SFFA v. the University of North Carolina.
Research shows that whenever a state bans consideration of race in college admissions, enrollment of marginalized students drops in that state’s public institutions. College enrollment should reflect America’s population; if it does not, colleges should be permitted to use appropriate tools to ameliorate that inequity.
